22/11/09 - Pulborough 0 : Haywards Heath 31

After a late pitch inspection on Sunday morning, Haywards Heath were good enough to allow the match to take place even though the ground was quite wet having taken rain most of Saturday night.
Despite several brave individual performances, were out played in several key areas of the game. This was a brutal lesson for all of us in just how far some teams have progressed. Possibly we didn't play our best, possibly the weather didn't suit us, but it was the same for both teams and we didn't come close in this test.

We will move on from this and play better because of it, as long as we learn from the experience as remember how and why we lost.

Not wishing to take anything away from Haywards Heath, but eventually the weather was the winner! Torrential doesn't come close to describing the rain and when it turned into hail, propelled by a force 9, the referee abandoned the match half way through the second half.

25/10/09 - Pulborough 15 : Hove B 12

The U13s travelled to Hove for our second league fixture of the season. Numbers were down again, this time due to illness, which just goes to show that our squad size is only just big enough to supply a team.  Hove have always managed to field a strong team and their B squad certainly didn't disappoint, some of their second row were as big as the coaches! Our pack was under a lot of pressure from the very start, we were loosing possession at breakdowns due to their dominant rucking. Not a situation we are used to. However, Jack put the early points on the board with a very welcome try. Hove responded quickly with a try of their own which they converted as well.  Unfortunately there was a serious injury to one of the hove players half way through the first half which made it necessary to migrate to another pitch. All our thoughts go out to the boy and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Before half time we managed to regain the lead thanks to a great run and individual try from Dalton.  Hove seemed to be even more aggressive after the break with a great display of forward strength and some challenging runs, Pulborough had to work to the last man to keep them contained. Yet again our tackling was crucial to winning this game. Each side scored again in the hard fought second half but neither was converted. The winning try came from Byron with a lovely run on the blind side and an unnecessarily extravagant dive over the line.

Very well done to you all.

04/10/09 - PULBOROUGH 45 - WORTHING 'B' NIL

Great to see so much of what we've talked about on the training ground finally get put into practise when it mattered. The dominant performance that was produced was a real team effort and the whole squad should be very proud of the result.

Worthing were by no means a weak side and had some real talent in some areas, however we never allowed them to get quality possession from their own scrums and quickly closed down any breaks that they made with impressive tackling.

It should be noted for the record that Seb Warner scored our first ever league points with a great individual try, running in from the half way line and beating several tacklers with evasive running.

Byron celebrated his Birthday in fine style with three tries! Other tries came from Dalton, Josh and Tim. Our kickers, James, Andrew and Dalton showed real quality and only one try went unconverted.
